Veteran Educational Benefits

Casal Aveda Institute has been approved by the Ohio State Approving Agency for the training of veterans and other eligible persons. 

Eligible Veterans/Reservists planning on using their educational benefits at Casal Aveda Institute should read the following information pertaining to receiving and maintaining benefits. Links to all applicable forms and to VA resources are also listed.

Borrowers may qualify for Title IV student financial aid. Terms and conditions of Title IV loans may be more favorable than private education loans.


Chapter 30

Who qualifies: Active duty for minimum of two years and has paid into the Montgomery GI Bill and has received an honorable discharge.

Additional Requirements: Each month the VA requires students receiving Chapter 30 or 1606 benefits to verify their enrollment and program of study.  Students may verify enrollment by phone at 1-877-823-2378 or online at www.gibill.va.gov using the WAVE portion of the website.

Continuing Students: Students who have previously received benefits will be certified upon registration for classes.  The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships receives a weekly registration report that is generated to track all registration activity by VA students.

Change in Schools: A student who has received Veteran benefits at another school and now plans on enrolling at YSU must complete and submit a VA 22-1995 form.  This is the only form required to begin receiving VA benefits at YSU.

Chapter 33

Who qualifies: Individuals with active duty service after 9/10/2001, who serve a period of at least 90 aggregate days or serve a period of at least 30 days and receive a disability discharge.

Additional Requirements: Once the VA processes the 22-1990, a Certificate of Eligibility will be sent to the student.  The student must then provide a copy of the Certificate to Casal Aveda Institute.

Casal Aveda Institute cannot certify enrollment until a copy of the Certificate of Eligibility is received.

Change in Schools: If the student is a first time applicant for Chapter 33 benefits, the student must complete and submit a VA 22-1990 form. 

A Chapter 33 student who has received benefits at another school and now plans on enrolling at YSU must complete and submit a VA 22-1995 form.

Chapter 35

Who qualifies: Spouses and children of veterans who have died in service or have been disabled due to service connected incident.  Dependents of POW and MIA also included in Chapter 35.

Chapter 1606

Who qualifies: Member of the Selected Reserves or National Guard that have not been in active duty or did not pay into the Mongomery GI Bill while active.

*Paper forms must be submitted to the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. Students who submit forms online should notify our office. Upon notification, we will process the certification. 

Additional Programs:  Chapter 31 (Vocational Rehabilitation) - Veterans may be eligible for Vocational Rehabilitation if they have a service-connected disability or disabilities rated by the VA at 10 percent or greater.  For more information, visit www.va.gov or email Candi Thomas at cthomas@CasalAveda.com.

Chapter 1607 (REAP) - Members of a reserve component who served on active duty on or after September 11, 2001 for a contingency operation and who served at least 90 consecutive days are eligible for chapter 1607.  For more information, visit  www.gibill.va.gov or email Candi Thomas at cthomas@CasalAveda.com.
